Did you know that it was possible to obtain a subsidy when you want to change or replace your heating system, such as a furnace? These grants apply even when you want to get a new facility. It is therefore important to get informed before taking the first step and buying a heating system. Although there are a few criteria to meet, if you want to upgrade from your current heating system to a greener one, chances are you are eligible for one of these grant options.
Subsidy program: Chauffez vert
First, the works and equipment eligible for the program are likely to change. Therefore, it is essential to check the terms and requirements of the program before performing your work. The question you might ask yourself the most, but who is eligible to apply for the grant? An individual or a company legally owning a dwelling or a residential building in Quebec or his duly authorized representative. Do you own more than one house? No problem, you can apply for each of them.
Work eligible for the grant
Initially, replacing a diesel or propane heating system with a system powered by renewable energies such as electricity entitles you to the corresponding subsidy. Please note: Natural gas fueled systems are not eligible.
Then, the complete dismantling of the fossil fuel furnace or boiler as well as the diesel or propane tank is also admissible, provided that this work is carried out by a contractor holding the corresponding RBQ certifications. In the same vein, it should be noted that only new heating systems (furnace or boiler) powered by electricity or by a combination of renewable energies are eligible.
So, good news, if you meet these criteria, you can easily obtain financial assistance of more than $1,000.

Subsidy program: RenoClimate
Do you want to improve the comfort of your home and energy efficiency? Do you know that in Quebec City there are two programs that can allow you to have financial assistance of up to $5,000? These are the Canadian Grant for Greener Homes and the Rénoclimat program.
Although these are two separate programs with different eligibility requirements, in Quebec the federal grant is only accessible through the Rénoclimat program. Thus, by participating in the Rénoclimat program, you are directly registered in the federal program!
Remember that the jobs and equipment eligible for the programs are subject to change. Therefore, it is essential to check the terms and requirements of the programs before performing your work.
Who can get this financial assistance?
To participate in the Rénoclimat program, you must be the owner or authorized representative of a home located in Quebec. You can make several requests for the same accommodation.
Work eligible for the grant
Various renovations that improve a home’s energy efficiency are eligible for both programs. These may relate to the mechanical systems used or the building envelope. For example, the installation or replacement of an air source heat pump as well as the installation or replacement of a ventilation system are eligible for the program. In the same vein, it should be noted that if the chosen heating system is a heat pump, it must be written on the list of heat pumps eligible for the Rénoclimat program. Additionally, the ventilation system must of course be an energy or heat recovery ventilator and must be certified by the Home Ventilating Institute.
